Day 46: Sandboarding

We took a sand buggy from the hotel up into the sand dunes with apparently the towns craziest driver, I don't think we quite expected him to be THAT mad though and we were seriously almost thrown out of our seats as he flew over the dunes at a ridiculous speed. Anyway after having swallowed almost the entire sand dune, we stopped and began to try sand boarding. Our first trial run involved lying on your tummy on the board and going down head first, swallowing even more sand (not that that was even really possible) and then progressed onto actually standing up. Falling over on sand is actually a lot more painful than you would think and we ended up with really bruised bums this evening. We finished off watching another amazing sunset and then a crazy ride back to the town thoroughly covered in sand.

Day 45: Huacachina

Our first day in Huacachina was mostly spent lying by the pool, or in Clem's case the shade, soaking up our first bit of Peruvian sun. We had heard from some friends that you have to climb up one of the sand dunes in the evening to watch one of the sunsets, so at around 5pm we set off up one of the nearby dunes. It was genuinely the hardest thing climbing sand dunes, especially along the ridge as you seem to just sink on either side and basically take 1 step forwards and about 5 back. Eventually a little while later, and looking like we had run a marathon we reached the top and sat down to watch the gorgeous sunset. We then proceeded to race the entire way down which made the whole thing extremely satisfying.

Day 44: White Water Rafting

Today we decided to try a bit of white water rafting. We thought it would be really hard core-but it turned out to be basically a little boat trip down a river with a few bumpy bits and a little bit of screaming.

Extremely attractive rafting attire
