Day 60: Milford Sound and Lake Gunn

Firstly, we began the trek up over the mountains to Milford Sound which was really beautiful and we even saw our first ever wild seal, exciting stuff. The old couple next to us couldn't believe it. On the way up to Milford Sound I decided to take a dip in an extremely cold lake and yes that is snow in the background, I eventually couldn't feel my feet. Also we stumbled across Lake Gunn, which was in fact discovered by a guy called George Gunn (coincidence!!) and took a few photos obviously with the sign. People driving past couldn't understand why we were taking so many photos with just this sign. We also stopped off at another lake, rather sweetly named Lake Mistletoe, where some seriously keen campers gave us some condescending looks as we were obviously not dressed in the appropriate hiking boots and camouflage trousers which they were all wearing.

After Milford Sound, we headed back down the same route all the way to Queenstown, the drive was amazing and we had the wind blowing in through the windows, it was a pretty good few hours with the sun shining. I don't think Clem and I could have been much happier until we then came across a little river where we decided to have a shower. It was absolutely freezing but very funny at the same time, luckily the fisherman down the river didn't see us (I don't think). Also we picked up our first hitchhiker called Lydia, who we came across on the side of the road just after Te Anau, who had lost her passport and desperately needed to get to Queenstown so she sat in the back and offered us some of her cookies and joined us on our trip back up to Queenstown.
